Age:

If the candidate has worked abroad for three, five, or eight years in the designated field during the previous ten years, they are eligible to get points. Australian Study: If the applicant completes a course in Australia for two academic years or longer, they will be eligible to get bonus points.

Live and Study in a Regional Area: If the candidate satisfies the Australian study requirement of residing and pursuing an education in a “regional low population growth metropolitan area” for at least 2 years.

Spouse Skills: If the spouse meets the minimum standards in terms of age, English language proficiency, qualifications, and skills assessment results, the applicant may claim points under this category.

Candidates would be deemed eligible by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), which is in charge of immigration, if they received at least 65 points.

Your eligibility for a PR visa to Australia is determined by points. You need to, as previously said, receive at least 65 points using the Points Grid. The various standards for assigning points are defined in the following table:

Age: You will gain a maximum of 30 points if your age is between 25 to 32 years.

  • Age between 18-24 years – 25 points
  • Age between 25-32 years – 30 points
  • Age between 33-39 years – 25 points
  • Age between 40-44 years – 15 points
  • Age between 44-45– 15 points
  • Age between 45 and above – 0 points

English proficiency: A score of 8 bands in the IELTS exam can give you a maximum of 20 points. However, the Australian immigration authorities allow applicants to take English proficiency tests such as IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, etc.  You can try for the required score on any of these tests.

  • English Language Scores criteria has Superior (8/79 on each band in IELTS/PTE Academic) has 20 points
  • Proficient (7/65 on each band in IELTS/PTE Academic) has 10 points
  • Competent (6/50 on each band in IELTS/PTE Academic) has 0 points

Work experience: Skilled employment outside Australia with 8 to 10 years of experience counting back from the date of your PR application will give you 15 points; fewer years of experience means fewer points.

  • Skilled employment outside Australia with Less than 3 years – 0 points
  • 3-4 years – 5 points
  • 5-7 years – 10 points
  • More than 8 years – 15 points

Skilled employment in Australia with 8 to 10 years of experience from the date of application will give you a maximum of 20 points.

  • Skilled employment in Australia with less than 1 year – 0 points
  • 1-2 years – 5 points
  • 3-4 years – 10 points
  • 5-7 years – 15 points
  • More than 8 years – 20 points

Education: Points for the education criteria depend on the educational qualification. Maximum points are given to a doctorate degree from an Australian university or a doctorate from a university outside Australia, provided it is recognized by the Australian government.

  • Qualifications A Doctorate degree from an Australian university or institute outside Australia – 20 points
  • A Bachelor’s (or Masters) degree from an Australian university or institute outside Australia – 15 points
  • Diploma or trade qualification completed in Australia – 10 points
  • Any qualification or award recognized by the relevant assessing authority for your nominated skilled occupation – 10 points
  • Niche skills such as Doctorate or master’s degree in Australia – 5 points
  • Specialist Education qualification (Masters’s degree by research or a Doctorate degree from an Australian educational institution) – 10 points

Spouse application: If your spouse is also an applicant for the PR visa, you will be eligible for additional points.

  • Spouse Qualification with Spouse has a PR visa or is an Australian citizen – 10 points
  • Spouse has competent English and has a Positive Skill Assessment – 10 points
  • Spouse has only competent English – 5 points
